  • Customized Therapy Approach

At Marin Vista, we apply a customized therapy approach that takes into account each individuals unique needs, backgrounds, and struggles. We understand that the needs of our participants vary depending on their individual life experiences, and challenges.  There is no one cause of eating disorders. Rather, eating disorders are caused by a variety of psychological, biological, interpersonal, and social factors. The multidisciplinary team at Marin Vista focuses on the underlying dynamics that create and maintain the eating disorder behaviors. These may include self-esteem, self-concept, how you experience emotions, your relationships, and your social support system. If anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use or other related mental health issues are present, these will also be addressed as part of your treatment.

In addition to our group therapies, there are a minimum of two individual psychotherapy sessions, one family therapy session and one nutrition counseling session provided per week. Based each person’s treatment needs, weekly meetings with our staff psychiatrist may also be provided.

Customized, Patient – Centered Individual Therapy

Individual psychotherapy provides our patients focused and confidential one-on-one time with their therapist on a regular basis. Individual therapy is an opportunity for patients to explore the underlying dynamics that may be creating or contributing to their eating disorder behaviors. Contributing factors that are explored may include the following:

    • perfectionist tendencies
    • low self-esteem
    • separation and individuation
    • issues related to body image and identity
    • trauma
    • developing less self-destructive coping mechanisms

    What Therapy Approaches Are Applied?

Our licensed psychologists are trained in different therapeutic approaches to treatment and integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing as well as psychodynamic approaches. Regardless of the combination of therapy techniques that are utilized, our clinical team always specifically tailors their approaches to fit with each patient’s unique needs, goals and circumstances.
