  • Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disoders

Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED) is a diagnostic category that comprises individuals who may have significant eating disorder symptoms but don’t meet full criteria for specific eating disorder diagnoses. It is important to remember that a diagnosis of OSFED is considered to be as clinically significant as the primary diagnoses of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.

For those with anorexia, it may include patients who have lost a significant amount of weight but their weight is still in a ‘normal’ range. For those with bulimia and binge eating disorder, it includes individuals who don’t meet the frequency requirement for the number of binge episodes per week or the duration of symptoms. This category also includes other maladaptive behaviors such as chewing and spitting and night eating.

Treatment for OSFED and atypical eating disorder behaviors at Marin Vista Health and Wellness is provided by a multidisciplinary team of eating disorder experts, including licensed therapists, psychologists, registered dietitians, nutritionists, and a caring support staff. Individuals struggling with eating disorders such as OSFED have the highest mortality rate of any mental health disorder. If you or someone you know may be suffering from an atypical eating disorder, don’t hesitate to contact us.  We can provide a confidential evaluation and treatment plan recommendation at no cost.
