  • Eating Disorder Treatment

Marin Vista’s Eating Disorder Treatment Center is centrally located in Sausalito, just minutes from the Golden Gate bridge and the San Francisco Bay Area. We are the only program in Marin offering both Day Treatment (also referred to as PHP) and Intensive Outpatient services to both adults and teens. Our dedicated team of Therapists, Registered Dietitians, and milieu staff specialize in treating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, overeating, and other related eating disorder behaviors.  Our program is evidence based with a whole person treatment approach that focuses on healing the mind, body and spirit.

Do I Have an Eating Disorder?

An eating disorder often begins to emerge when there are obsessive dieting behaviors combined with strong feelings of low self-esteem and poor body image. It is an illness that affects all aspects of a person’s life. Common eating disorder types include anorexia (characterized by restricting one’s food intake to below minimum daily caloric requirements on a regular basis, resulting in extreme weight loss), bulimia (consuming a large amount of food in a short period of time, followed by excessive exercising or vomiting), and binge-eating (consuming large amounts of food in a short period of time followed by feelings of guilt, shame and loss of control).

We have successfully treated adults and adolescent teens suffering from all types of eating disorders. At Marin Vista, we always have intake specialists available if you would like to call and schedule a free, confidential evaluation to find out whether or not you or a loved one may be suffering from an eating disorder.

    Patient-Centered Approach

Marin Vista has been operating patient-centered eating disorder treatment, wellness and recovery programs in residential, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization levels of care throughout Northern California for over a decade.  In our nearly 30 years of experience owning and operating behavioral health programs, we have found that the struggles and challenges that every individual faces are so unique, that no single therapy approach can be effective or ultimately successful without allowing the patient to actively contribute to their treatment plan.

    Individualized Treatment

At Marin Vista, we believe that eating disorders are often caused by a combination of psychological, biological, interpersonal, and social factors. We focus on helping to improve self-esteem, self-concept, how one experiences emotions, relationships, and social support system(s). When anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use or other related mental health issues are present, we also address these as part of each individual’s customized treatment plan.

    Nutrition Philosophy

We approach nutrition from the basic premise that all foods are good in moderation. Individuals entering our program have often developed complex relationships with food which involve restricting, bingeing, purging and many other compensatory behaviors. Participants work closely with our registered dietitians to create a personalized eating plan designed to meet their unique nutritional needs. What is most unique about our programs is that we empower our patients by giving them the freedom to make their own food choices.  Our patients also learn how to shop and prepare their own healthy meals, as well as how to portion their foods with the guidance of our dietitians and nutritionists. We never tell our patients what they must eat!
